Queens Youth Soccer Project

The Social Service Board sponsors three soccer teams for teenagers 14 to 16 years old: two boys’ teams and one girls’ team.  The mission is to keep these teenagers off the streets while teaching them leadership, values, and good sportsmanship. Most of the kids involved are from underprivileged families that have immigrated from Latin-American countries.  The kids are mostly beginners and practice twice a week after scool, developing their soccer skills as well as the discipline required in playing a sport.  In addition, they spend one day a week after school involved in leadership development and educational activities.

On Saturdays, they participate in the Queens Youth Soccer League. The boys’ teams play in the morning and are known as the “Queens Soccer Foundation” Sub 15 and Sub 17 (but we are in the process of creating a new team name). The girls’ team, known as “Juventus,” plays in the afternoon.  From June to October they play outdoors in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. From November to March they play indoors.

SSB Member Henry Bunch is responsible for the Queens Youth Soccer program.  He can be reached at 646-296-3370.
