Ethics in Action…
What the SSB does…
Among the many rewarding and meaningful “core projects” that SSB members have created, financed and sustained with their dedicated efforts are the Supervised Visitation Project, where children can finally be with estranged parents in safety.
The Homeless Women’s Shelter gives comfort and support to women who are temporarily homeless and with our efforts are on the way to finding a new home and job.
Through The East Harlem School Partnership children are given the opportunity to advance themselves in their creative possibilities through our scholarship grants and support for the schools program.
The Queens Soccer Project provides financial and logistical support for dozens of children of all ages and genders to feel the power of sport and togetherness who would otherwise go without.
Our Homeless Artists Project provides for artists a way to keep their artistic integrity through annual performances for a live audience of their wonderful talents, keeping hope alive.
And our newer developments…
DNA TESTING PROJECT: to free innocent citizens from an injustice.
GREETING CARD PROJECT: to reach out and include isolated people.
KATRINA RELIEF FUND: to be there when people need the most.
THE ALL HEALERS MENTAL HEALTH ALLIANCE (AHMHA): in association with the Black Psychiatrists of Greater New York & Associates, to partner with other “Heroes of Healing” to bring mental relief to those affected by disaster. www.ahmha.org
Who we are…
Board Membership
The Social Service Board provides a multiple array of opportunities for caring people to express their needs to put Ethics into action.
People who desire to become a Board member are invited to attend a monthly Board meeting and see how its members give their leadership to ongoing projects and create new ones as their need arises.
Friends of the Board
The SSB also provides the opportunity for people who wish to participate in a project but whose busy lives don’t permit them to be a full-time Board member, but can participate in a desired project as a Friend of the Board.
A Friend of the Board may also support the SSB in two ways. By helping financially or giving time and activity to a particular project of choice.
If you feel the call to put ethics into action to preserve and expand our American Democracy, the Social Service Board is set up to energize, empower, and facilitate the ideas and needs of ethical people.
Ethics: The Soul of Secular Democracy
Ethics inspires authentic self esteem, motivates our dynamic social conscience, and demonstrates the love, care, and trust which are the human glue of our multi-dimensional Democracy.
For over 130 years the New York Society for Ethical Culture has served our culture through the Social Service Board, which is dedicated to the empowerment of caring people.
People like you who share our faith in the future. People who see the need to give social service and put Ethics into action, fulfilling the challenging need of our times to build a more Ethical world.
