Now that we approach the 2012 election we face a deadlocked Congress, deadening unemployment and a society that is viciously divided on issues from the reality of global warming to whether government is an ally or an enemy of the American people, to the appropriateness of laws subjecting  women who elect to have an abortion to superfluous vaginal probes. How did we so quickly get to this point?
